Sydney MapRun #9 The turning circles of Kingsgrove

June 15 @ 5:00 amJune 21 @ 5:00 pm

Garingal Orienteers

Venue: Kingsgrove
Start/Finish Location: The Corner Grind Cafe, corner of Warrawee Place and Tooronga Terrace, Beverly Hills
Getting there by Public Transport: the start is a very short walk from Beverly Hills train station (T8 line) which is around 35 minutes from Town Hall or Central Station. If you can tap off with your Opal Card or credit/debit card, do the course and then tap on again in under an hour then the return journey is free.
Format: 45 minute score course
Toilets: there are toilets at Beverly Hills Station (100m away) which are not behind a barrier.  There are also toilets at Beverly Hills park (800m away) which are open from 7am-7pm.
Start Time: Anytime Wednesday through to Sunday evening.

About the Course: the course is set between King Georges Road (west), Moorefields Road (north) and Vanessa Street (south).  The M5 passes through the middle of the course where there are only two places to cross – the Cooloongatta Road bridge and the Kindilan underpass.  The course should be relatively traffic free, but care should be taken when crossing roads.
There are ten turning circles on the course each worth 20 points.  Around the start and to the south of the M5 the course is relatively flat with lots of points on offer, however once you move to the north then the course becomes hillier and you have to work harder.
Coffee: the Corner Grind does excellent coffee.  If you’ve got more time to explore the area, then Macchina Expresso at Kingsgrove (2km away) is highly recommended.
Favourite Control: For those who make it to the far north of the course, Control 30 passes through a hedge.
Photos below of the start/finish and of the hedge at control 30.
